PROVIDING SAFE DRINKING WATER
Help bring safe drinking water to government schools in Telangana.
THIS IS PRANAV'S STORY.
Pranav loves coming to school.
But when he suddenly starts missing classes because of recurring fever and weakness, his friend Dhruv goes to check on him.
Pranav has been diagnosed with typhoid.
The conversation leaves Dhruv with an important question:

THE PROBLEM
For children, school is where they spend a large part of their day.
They need water to drink, stay hydrated and carry on with their classes.
But a water source alone is not enough.
The water needs to be safe.

Water quality can be affected by contamination at the source, during storage or before it reaches the child. UNICEF has highlighted water-quality concerns in rural schools, including risks associated with contaminants such as iron, arsenic and fluoride.
When children fall sick, the consequences can go beyond health.
They can mean missed classes, disrupted learning and lost school days.
SO, WHAT CAN WE DO?

INSTALL WATER PURIFIERS IN SCHOOLS.
SWIS Foundation aims to install water purification systems in selected government schools in rural Maharashtra, beginning with schools in the Karjat and Palghar areas.
The idea is simple:
IDENTIFY THE NEED.
Could something as basic as drinking water be putting children at risk?
Inadequate water quality and poor WASH conditions can increase children's exposure to preventable water-related illnesses. UNICEF identifies water quality as an important challenge in rural schools in India.
And this is why safe drinking water at school matters.
